‘Malpaís’ – Exhibition

In July 2019, the artistic meeting of Juan Carlos Robles and Guillermo Weickert took place during three days of recording on the island of Lanzarote to produce a video piece.

The sweeping landscape of the island can be realized in these infinite extensions of Malpaís: a nature that generates a powerful attraction while rejecting, injuring, and undoing the human body. An interesting contradiction that connects with some of the recurring themes in the work of both artists such as the generation of desire or the confrontation with the Other.

The idea of the I and the Other – the double, with its lights and its shadows – is the trigger that activates the communication strategy of MALPAÍS. Dissolving the distance that separates us from the Other in the era of techno-vision is the leitmotif of this proposal that, finally, finds a therapeutic dimension in the Lanzarote landscape.
