‘Solo’ by Israel Galván, contemporary dance

With no other company than himself, Israel Galván explores in ‘Solo’ the possibilities of naked dance. After an initial investigation dancing solo and without music from the most classical flamenco, the bailaor takes the concept to the extreme, resulting in an avant-garde experience. Galván follows in the footsteps of one of his referents, Vicente Escudero, who has danced without music almost 100 years ago.

The artist exposes himself without artifice and shows what he is. The stage is not amplified with microphones. There is no musical accompaniment in “Solo”, instead, Galván creates some choreography with a soundtrack listening in depth to his own body, using rhythms made with his feet, with snapping fingers and even in some fleeting moments, with his voice. A good opportunity to contemplate how rich your repertoire is and assimilate the unique, pure and conceptual language that has opened a new world of possibilities in the flamenco dance of the 21st century.
