The arrival of Humboldt to La Graciosa will be celebrated with three days of activities in of June
This year marks the 220th anniversary of the landing carried out in La Graciosa, in 1799, by Alexander von Humboldt, naturist, giant of the history of science and considered the father of modern universal geography, together with Aimé Jacques Alexandre Goujaud Bonpland , also naturalist, doctor and French botanist.
The acts are open to all interested public and will have the participation of leading experts in different disciplines that during these three days of next June, will try to bring the history and the events of the first landing in the non-continental territory of the frigate of ‘Pizarro’ war.

Humboldt is considered the Father of Biogeography and has been traditionally related to the Canary Islands through his visit to Tenerife, the ascension to Teide and the establishment of the famous vegetation floors that stratified the plant species according to the environmental conditions that varied with the altitude above sea level. Much less known is the fact that the illustrious German naturalist first stepped on the European non-continental soil when he disembarked in the northeast area of the island of La Graciosa. ”
The facts that will be put in value thanks to a complete program that includes in its first day, which will take place on June 14, the opening conference of Agustín Guimerá Ravina on ‘Humboldt and the landing at La Graciosa’ and an exhibition It will be inaugurated during this meeting in Caleta de Sebo and will later be handed over to the Cabildo de Lanzarote so that it can be exhibited in other public places. On June 14 it will conclude with a recital of Canarian music by the timplista Benito Cabrera and his quartet.
The Meeting will continue on Saturday, June 15, with a didactic excursion by Arnoldo Santos Guerra to Barranco de Los Conejos and Pedro Barba, where an explanation about the plant species and biodiversity that Humboldt found in this insular territory will be offered.
Already in Pedro Barba, that same Saturday, June 15, at 12:30, will be staged the landing of Humboldt in charge of a professional theater company. In the afternoon, at 17:00 hours, on the Beach of Las Conchas will open some interpretive tables of the Autonomous Agency of Natural Parks and conclude the day with an interesting didactic talk on cartography, which will be offered by the expert Juan Antonio García Cruz who will explain the reasons why Humboldt arrived at La Graciosa and thought that it was an extension of Lanzarote, according to the navigation charts.
The meeting will end on Sunday, June 16, with a didactic boat trip that will recreate the arrival of the scientist to this Canary Island. More information and registration in this link.
