Debating cinema in the 8th Lanzarote Film Festival
The eighth edition of La Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote, directed by Javier Fuentes and managed by the Tenique Film Association, will screen the Official Competition films until Friday. From today, each session has the presence of its directors.
The filmmakers of these brave cinematographic bets, awarded at various international festivals, have not yet been released commercially. These titles are: ‘Star’, by Johann Lurf, a film essay that proposes a look at thousands of stellar moments reflected in the history of cinema; ‘The image that you lacked’, by Donal Foreman, an intimate and reflective documentary about the longing for a father, the role of the family and the political commitment to the Ulster conflict in the background, ‘Continue recording’, by Saeed Al Batal and Ghiath Ayoub, Prize at the International Week of Critics in Venice, a reflection of horror and war madness from the point of view of two friends living in different parts of Syria; ‘Trote’, by Xacio Baño, talks about the return of the children to a town in Galicia after an accident and the problems arising from that family reunion; and ‘M’, by Yolande Zauberman, Special Prize of the Jury in Locarno, is about life in the most ultra-orthodox Jewish communities and the sexual abuses that are generated.
The projections take place in El Almacén, the main venue of the Exhibition and the price of the tickets is € 3.
The Official Competition Section already began yesterday, without the presence of its directors, with the screening of ‘La casa lobo’, by Cristóbal León and Joaquín Coñiza; and on Sunday the section was opened, out of competition, with ‘La ciudad oculta’, directed by Víctor Moreno, a film that won the Best Photography Award at the European Film Festival in Seville.
The six films in competition opt for the Jury Prize, worth € 2,500, and for three more prizes: Young Jury Prize, Audience Prize, and NUMAX Prize that will facilitate the premiere in Galicia of the award-winning film.
The jury of this edition is composed by Vanesa Fernández Guerra, director of ZINEBI, International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao; Francesco Clerici, filmmaker who won the International Critics Award (FIPRESCI) for The Hand Gesture; and Alejandro Krawietz, director of the MiradasDoc International Festival and Documentary Film Market, Tenerife.
