Program of the Lanzarote International Film Festival 2019

A total of 3.191 works of 116 nationalities have been submitted to the pre-selection of the 19th International Film Festival of Lanzarote, the annual event par excellence of the short films on the island of Lanzarote.

The FICL has once again surpassed its record of participation and also of participating nationalities. In the International Short Fiction category, 1,704 works were received. In the section of National Short Films of Fiction 622 works were registered, followed by Documentary Short (460), Short of Animation (359) and the recovered section of Canary Shorts (46).

Since last October, a selection committee made of people linked to the world of culture and cinematography have conscientiously viewed the almost 4,000 shorts. After discussing the technical and artistic aspects, they have agreed on an Official Selection of 91 short films that Lanzarote’s spectators will be able to enjoy on the big screen from May 10th to 18th.

The short films, filmed in 2018 in different parts of the planet (Bangladesh, Burma, Afghanistan, Armenia, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Togo, Arab Emirates, Albania, France, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Iran, Syria, United States, Mexico , Russia and a long etc …), will be the protagonists of the projections of this nineteenth Festival. A range of stories that reflects the concerns of Canarian, Spanish and international filmmakers.

In addition to the FICL trophy and the 1,500 euros awarded for each category, the authors that win prizes in the Short Documentary category (only if it is a Spanish production) and in National Fiction Short Films will get the pre-selection in the Goya Awards, a pre-nomination phase that the Academy of Sciences and Cinematographic Arts of Spain will announce at the end of the year.
