The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Biosphere Reserve in collaboration with the Orotova Canary Islands Foundation for the History of Science, organizes next Friday, February 8, a new talk of the `Cycle of Conferences Let’s Talk about the Biosphere ‘about the humanist, geographer and explorer Alexander von Humboldt and his holistic vision of Nature in the Canarian-American voyage.
The free conference, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Insular Library of Arrecife, will be given by Miguel Ángel Puig-Samper Mulero, Doctor in Biological Sciences from the Complutense University, Professor of Research at the Institute of History of the CSIC and member of the Royal Academy of History, the Colombian Academy of History and the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
Puig-Samper is also the author of the book ‘Feel and measure. Alexander von Humboldt in Spain ‘(Madrid, 2007) and during the conference he will offer in Lanzarote he will make a brief review about the formative stage of Humboldt, his longings towards the tropical world and his intellectual search for the harmony of Nature. Likewise, the preparations for his Canarian-American trip to the Peninsula, his journey through the Canary Islands, his passage through Lanzarote and La Graciosa and his stay in Tenerife will also be analyzed, in order to reach the American world where he will spend several years visiting Colombia. , Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and the United States.
