Ryuichi Sakamoto: coda – Film – Visual Music Festival

Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of the most important artists of our era, has had a prolific career spanning more than four decades. From the stardom of his techno-pop stage to becoming an Oscar-winning composer, the evolution of his music has coincided with his different journeys through life.

Faced with a critical moment such as the diagnosis of throat cancer, Sakamoto stops his career and shares with the camera reflections on his artistic life and social concerns. With strategically arranged archival material, this elegant and parsimonious film travels from its beginnings to the music he composed in response to 9/11 and the war in Iraq. His anti-war and anti-nuclear convictions also surface before a piano that survived the Fukushima catastrophe. The result is both the portrait of an artist who continues to enjoy as a child before each sound finding as a poetic reflection of the creative act and, above all, a song to life.

The documentary will be offered at El Almacén on October 15 and 16 at 8:30 p.m.
