Flamenco and Jazz go hand in hand with the performance of guitarist Gerardo Nuñez and the Big Band of the Canary Islands
An unusual fusion between jazz and the swing of a big band and flamenco of one of the most prestigious national and international musical guitarists. That is what the joint concert that tomorrow Thursday, November 21 will offer the Big Band of the Canary Islands, led by saxophonist Kike Perdomo, and guitarist Gerardo Núñez, who will also accompany flamenco dancer Carmen Cortés on stage.
The concert will take place at 8.30 pm, and tickets to see it cost 10 euros, and can be purchased on the Lanzarote Culture website. The locations can also be purchased at the CIC El Almacén from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and at the box office of the Víctor Fernández Gopar Theater “El Salinero” on the same day of the performance, from one hour before the start of the show, but only in the case that have not been previously sold out.
The performance of the Big Band of the Canary Islands and Gerardo Núñez is organized by the cultural association Isla & Ritmo and the area of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, which is coordinated by the counselor Alberto Aguiar. The Canary Islands Government collaborates.
From the Big Band of the Canary Islands they clarify the motivations that have led them to organize this show and take it through all the islands and outside the Canary Islands. “We were always interested in the flamenco world, a complex world from the rhythmic and harmonic point of view, and also a world with a lot of character, a lot of emotion and a lot of elf. There are many international artists who are interested in this exclusive world, especially in the US and Japan, although today we could say that this music is demanded throughout the globe and also, of course, their dance, “they say.
“Flamenco”, they continue explaining, “is the most important root of Spanish music and there have not been many experiences of big bands making this music, so we consider ourselves researchers and precursors in this aspect. To be able to perform a concert with one of the few flamenco concert performers is a real challenge for the BBDC. Gerardo Núñez is what he is for his impressive touch and for his inexhaustible creative inventiveness, aspects that have earned him the respect and admiration of artists and audiences “, they affirm from the Big Band of the Canary Islands.
