The ‘biosquinas’ aim to revive architecturally and socially the neighborhoods of Arrecife

 In Leisure, News

The initiatives included in the Biosquinas project aim to contribute to the urban, social, economic and environmental recovery of Arrecife. They are included in the Biosphere Capital Reef project led by the Reserve Office.

The Biosquinas aim to boost the value of certain existing places in Arrecife that stand out amid the arid urban landscape of the capital by generating urban and environmental life by providing shade, vegetation and rest area; In addition to being a place of visual reference.

The new Biosquinas are a contemporary version of their precedents, to which they add more bio-functionalities. In addition to trees, gardens, shaded spaces and living areas, the new Biosquinas include a sustainable drainage system that captures, filters and stores rainwater in reservoirs, just as it used to be when water was a scarce resource and valuable in Lanzarote.

In addition to a series of Biosquinas distributed by all the neighborhoods of Arrecife, the project includes other proposals such as the Water Roads, a series of multimodal exchangers and some Civic Platforms. An example of these first biosquinas are the one of Four Corners, in the zone of the Charco de San Gines, and the one located in the crossing of Doctor Fleming streets with Blas Cabrera, among others.
