The book that tells the tragedy of Valbanera, will be presented this Saturday in Tías
This Saturday, January 26, 2019, the Indieras room (next to the Terrero de Lucha de Tías) will host at 7:00 pm the conference of Julio González Padrón, co-author of the book ‘Valbanera: Requiem for a Shipwreck’.
Among the acts for the patron saint festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas in Tías, will take place the conference on the sad history of this barcon among whose travelers were several residents of the municipality of Tias, as well as other areas of Lanzarote.
The history of the Valbanera, the famous ship of the Canarian emigration to America and known as the Titanic with Canarian travelers, returns to Tías on the centenary of its naval tragedy. This conference is part of the centennial year of the sinking of this ship.
A century after the tragic shipwreck of the transatlantic, the largest Spanish naval disaster in times of peace, its disappearance in Caribbean waters, with 488 people on board, continues to confine uncertainties about those that have put light the Cuban of Canarian origin, Mario Luis López Isla and Julio González Padrón, Canarian merchant seaman, writer and delegate of the Royal Naval League in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
‘Valbanera: Requiem for a shipwreck’ is a meticulous work where the details of this drama are offered. The work, which is now presented in Tías, also rectifies and clarifies the facts as they happened in 1919.
