The Canary Islands Music Festival brings six first class concerts to Lanzarote and La Graciosa
The Canary Islands Music Festival has established an extensive program for the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, highlighting the presence of the Quiroga Quartet, recently awarded the 2018 National Music Prize.
In addition, there will be four other first-level concerts featuring the London Conchord Ensemble and the Cadaqués orchestras, the Barroca de Tenerife and the Minsk Philharmonic Chamber. All this in scenarios of five municipalities. All concerts will be at 8:30 p.m.
The Quiroga Quartet will be the one to open the program, with two concerts in the Church of Carmen de La Graciosa on Saturday, January 19 and, the next day, in the Church of San Roque, in Tinajo. The Quiroga is considered one of the most unique camera sets of the new generation. The resident training at the Royal Palace of Madrid will be responsible for the premiere of one of the commissioned works of the 35th Festival, that of Tenerife composer Cecilia Díaz, with which she will open the program. They will continue with pieces by Haydn, Bartók, Arriaga and Ginastera. These two concerts will be free.
The program continues on Tuesday, January 22 at the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé, with a concert by the London Conchord Ensemble, one of the most prestigious chamber ensembles in Europe. Especially valued for their imaginative programs and their charismatic performances, which has led them to win numerous awards over the years, they bring to Lanzarote a repertoire integrated by works by Shubert, Jean Francaix and Beethoven.
The next appointment will be in February, specifically on Friday 1, with the Cadaqués Orchestra at the Jameos del Agua Auditorium. Formed by many of the best Spanish musicians and with 30 years on stage, they return to the festival with the conductor Anu Tali to perform works by Toldrá i Soler, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. For the Beethoven concert they will have the maestro Joaquín Achúcarro, a legend of the piano, still active at 85 years old.
The 35th Music Festival will continue on Sunday, February 3 at the Convent of Santo Domingo de Teguise with the Baroque Orchestra of Tenerife. They will make their first foray into the Canary Islands Music Festival with works from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The closing concert of the festival in Lanzarote will be on February 7 at the Víctor Fernández Gopar Theater “El Salinero”, in Arrecife, with the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Minsk. In Lanzarote they will perform a repertoire that includes one of the commissioned works of the festival, a piece by the Gran Canaria author Carlos González, as well as others by Britten, and Shostakovich.
