The Lanzarote Film Festival closes its eighth edition with 1700 attendees
Yesterday the Film Festival of Lanzarote was closed with the screening of the 1950 classic ‘Stromboli’, directed by Roberto Rossellini. For ten days this eighth edition was marked by a risky and committed programming of 24 films distributed in “Official Section”, “Crossroads: Canarian filmmakers”, and the two new sections: “Trasfoco: the volcano” and “Destiladera”.
In total, about 1,700 attendees enjoyed both the projections and the parallel activities of the exhibition, which included visits to the most emblematic places on the island. The show began on November 22nd at Cueva de los Verdes. At the opening, more than 300 people enjoyed ‘Inside the Volcano’, Werner Herzog’s film that explores the importance and culture generated around volcanoes in various parts of the world.
The Lanzarote Film Festival is managed by the Tenique Film Association, and has the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Lanzarote; Culture Lanzarote; and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. El Almacen, Arrecife City Council and Juventud Arrecife also collaborate.
“This year the Exhibition has grown, and more than 35 directors have passed through the island of Lanzarote, with whom we have learned and maintained rigorous debates, and attendance at the screenings has increased by 30%,” Javier Fuentes declared during the closing ceremony. , director of the contest. “We have launched risky and different bets that correspond to the philosophy of the Show, such as the public deliberation of the Jury.”
“One of the reasons for this growth is the opening to sections such as” Trasfoco: the volcano “and” Destiladera “, which connect and reflect on fundamental aspects of Lanzarote from a universal perspective”, affirmed Javier Fuentes. “These new spaces have had a great reception both among the usual public of the Show and among those who still did not know the project.”
