The Open Classroom ‘Schools of the Biosphere’ will be held next Saturday, January 19, starting at 10 o’clock in the morning, at the Socio-Cultural Center of Caleta de Famara, in the municipality of Teguise, as a meeting point for share the experiences of the educational community and stakeholders involved in the program.

In addition, participation in this activity is open to all the population interested in knowing the functioning of this program that has been promoted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Biosphere Reserve.

For the youngest, different workshops have been designed, where through the game the discovery and learning of the central themes of this Open Classroom will be enhanced.

Open Classroom Program

After the presentation of the Open Classroom that will take place on Saturday, January 19, at 10:00 hours, will begin the space ‘Weaving networks of exchange of experiences’, which will share the different lines of work that each educational community is proposed for this school year in the framework of this initiative.

‘Fine-tuning the senses for knowledge and care of our environment’, will begin at 12:30 pm, and through the eyes and experience of three invited experts, will be made known what elements we must keep in mind to observe, understand and care our environment. Domingo Concepción García, a biologist specialized in biodiversity and a research professor at the University School of Tourism of Lanzarote, will share some keys to keep in mind about the biotic resources of the island. Elena Mateo Mederos, geologist and coordinator of the Geopark Lanzarote and Chinijo Archipelago program, will do the same about abiotic resources. Famara Guadalupe Aparicio, geographer specialized Historical, Cultural and Natural Heritage and Protected Spaces, will focus on socio-cultural resources. After these exhibitions, there will be a short space of time to share reflections, raise questions and / or questions.

Next, the workspace ‘Culture of plastic, from now to the future’ will open. A dynamic space in which will be put on the table concerns, actions, reflections, information and proposals on the plastic, its management and the impact it has on our ecosystems and lives. The Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo de Lanzarote will count on the presence of different agents who, from different approaches, are working in this line.

Parallel to the celebration of this open classroom is exposed at C.S.C. from the Caleta de Famara the exhibition ‘Huellas de la ignorancia’, by the artist Jose Goñi García, which can be seen from Friday 18 to Monday 21 January at this same sociocultural center. This action has been promoted by the educational community participating in the CEIP project La Caleta de Famara, as part of the actions developed by this School of the Biosphere during this school year, in its awareness campaign ‘The impact of plastic in Famara, a sea of ​​water and not plastic.

The afternoon session will begin at 4:00 pm with the conclusions and the space ‘Participate or not participate, will that be the issue?’. A forum aimed at the emergence of different visions, voices and ideas present in the work process of the Biosphere Schools with the intention of generating a reflective dialogue among the participants and that will undoubtedly serve to guide the continuity of this program.

The working time will be closed with a plenary, where some conclusions of this meeting will be announced, and with the musical performance of Ida Susal that will put an end to this intense day and community meeting of the Biosphere Schools.
