The Data Centre of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, headed by councillor Ascensión Toledo, has just published the report “Lanzarote en cifras 2024” (“Lanzarote in figures 2024”), a bilingual publication aimed at the general public that offers an overall picture of the island through statistical data on aspects such as population, society, tourism, employment, the economy, the environment and transport.
It is an annual document that provides an insight into Lanzarote's main socio-economic and environmental indicators.
According to the report, Lanzarote currently has 163,230 inhabitants, an increase of almost 5,000 people on the previous year. In addition, 23.9% of residents are foreign nationals, mainly from Colombia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Morocco and Germany.
In the social section, the report highlights the stabilisation of the school-age population and the rise in gender-based violence offences compared with the previous year. As for house purchase prices, the figure reached 2,463 euros per square metre, up from 2,201 euros the year before.
Environmental indicators, for their part, reflect an increase in water consumption and in waste production in 2024, alongside falls in the consumption of energy products and in electricity generation.
