First steps of a plan to relaunch Lanzarote's heritage and culture

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has held the 1st Island Culture Round Table with the aim of beginning work on an Island Cultural Plan that will showcase identity, heritage and craftsmanship.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote's Culture department and the culture departments of the island's town councils met to discuss matters relating to better coordination of the cultural calendar between the Cabildo and the town councils, with a view to achieving greater visibility and success for the events programmed by the culture departments.

In addition, the challenges to be met at island level include the creation of a federation or cultural body bringing together all the associations, including traditional Canarian games and sports; the introduction of an island-wide events calendar to promote local talent; putting forward the project for the island Conference Centre; promoting the creation and sale of craftwork; building an island archaeological museum; creating an island carnival project; delivering the Zonzamas Site Museum, and restoring the island's tower mills, post mills, lime kilns and salt pans.
