Teguise is celebrating the completion of a project of public interest whose aim is to conserve, restore and showcase the municipality’s natural and scenic heritage by renewing and diversifying tourism activity in line with emerging trends.
To that end, Teguise Town Council has carried out work to recover and prepare the rich ethnographic heritage and spectacular landscape of Teguise and La Graciosa through the route known as “Del Mar al Río” (From the Sea to the River), which had a budget of 107,205 euros.
The demarcation, signposting and preparation of paths under the Ecotur project has showcased Lanzarote’s natural and ethnographic heritage with the installation of eco-modules on stretches of more than 20 kilometres, and it now takes shape as a footpath that, crossing the municipality’s inland territory from south to north (or vice versa), links its two most representative coastlines: the official tourist area of Costa Teguise and the village of La Caleta de Famara. Along the way it takes in the municipality’s most representative landscapes and a string of installations linked, for the most part, to the use of water, both water from the ocean, embodied in the now disused salt pans, and the aljibes (rainwater cisterns), maretas (traditional water reservoirs), washing places and other facilities associated with primary activities.
It also offers sweeping views of the island of Lanzarote and part of the group of islets that make up the Chinijo Archipelago, with two points highlighted as suggested stops for taking in the landscape, although the island’s own terrain allows for wide views along practically the entire route.
