The Parranda Marinera de Los Buches, one of the groups most representative of Lanzarote's cultural heritage, has announced the return of its traditional pasacalles (street parades) in Tías, thanks to the backing of the Town Council. The event, which will take place on Friday 7 March, will set off from Playa Chica and make its way along various streets of Puerto del Carmen before finishing at Plaza El Varadero, inviting the public to join the celebration in traditional dress.
Los Buches have expressed their gratitude for the institutional support, noting that this backing has made it possible to secure the continuity of one of the most deeply rooted expressions of Lanzarote's carnival. Although the group will not be taking part in the Gran Coso Carnavalero in Puerto del Carmen, its commitment to the street parades reinforces its dedication to the authenticity of the tradition. In addition, at its headquarters in Argana Baja, work continues towards having this cultural expression recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage, in line with the criteria of the 2003 UNESCO Convention.
As part of their educational work, Los Buches have launched a teaching project with IES Tías, in which students will make their own costumes and take part in the parade. In this way, the intergenerational transmission of a tradition is assured — one that is not only part of the carnival but also enriches Lanzarote's cultural and tourist heritage.
