The final month of the year arrives packed with cultural events for all audiences. Music, theatre, cinema, exhibitions and talks make up a full programme that, in December, gives pride of place to Christmas and to family activities. From festive musical events and theatre shows for younger audiences to exhibitions and auteur cinema, the programme promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote is an invitation to enjoy a plural, accessible and welcoming culture at this time of year too..
Navidad isleña 2025 (Island Christmas 2025)
A broad and comprehensive programme of musical performances organised to mark Christmas, which will travel to every municipality on the island, bringing the festive spirit to every corner. Choirs and the traditional ranchos de Pascua (Christmas carol groups) will be the leading lights of this cultural offering, which will fill the island's streets with music and tradition.
Music
December opens with the concert by Rubee Rose & Let's Sing Gospel Choir as part of the Gospel Canarias Fest (6 December), a proposal that blends the gospel tradition with contemporary arrangements. On Saturday the 13th, La Graciosa hosts the first edition of Octava Fest, a gathering that brings together the best of Canarian music with performances by Mampara Paró, Twinfins, Habitus and Denis Rodd. On Friday the 19th, the energy of Drûpe comes to the stage at El Almacén, presenting their new album Peach Please following their tour of Germany. The month closes with singer-songwriter Arístides Moreno accompanied by the 101 Brass Band (27 December), in a one-off concert on La Graciosa where ska, funk and Latin rhythms turn his classics into an unrepeatable celebration.
Theatre and dance
December's theatre programme is steeped in magic and dance, with shows designed for the whole family. On Thursday the 11th comes Navidad en la selva ("Christmas in the Jungle"), a major musical by the MT Dance dance school combining rhythm, colour and Christmas spirit in a story set in the jungle with a Grinch determined to steal the sacred star. Saturday the 13th brings Duendes, el misterio de los sueños perdidos ("Elves, the Mystery of the Lost Dreams"), a show that takes us to a magical Lapland to discover why children have stopped dreaming. The month closes with a major classical dance event: Swan Lake, performed by Ballets de Tenerife on Saturday the 20th, in a reading faithful to the original spirit that combines beauty, emotion and a first-rate cast. All the shows will take place at the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero”.
Cinema
The month's film programme unfolds across classics, auteur premieres and offerings for younger audiences. On Wednesday the 10th, Cine Buñuel screens Tres amigas ("Three Friends"), a comedy drama by France's Emmanuel Mouret about emotional bonds and relationship conflicts. On Saturday the 13th, Cine Club Lanzarote revives El cebo (1958) by Ladislao Vajda, a milestone of Spanish suspense cinema, in collaboration with the Festival Noir Lanzarote Negra. Wednesday the 17th sees the premiere of Blue Sun Palace, the acclaimed debut feature by Constance Tsang, which explores desire, grief and belonging through an intimate, personal lens. On Thursday the 18th, Cine Juventud Lanzarote presents The Wild Robot, an animated film based on the books by Peter Brown that mixes science fiction and family emotions in a story about nature and artificial intelligence.
Talks and lectures
Contemporary thought and artistic creation from the Canaries take centre stage in December's programme of encounters. On the 3rd and 4th, Creación desde Canarias: retos y perspectivas ("Creating from the Canaries: challenges and perspectives") takes place, a debate forum moderated by Nira Cabrera with the participation of Will Encarnación, Dario Machín, Ione Domínguez and María Betancor Ravelo, who will reflect on the current challenges facing island art in disciplines such as sculpture, painting and mural work. On Tuesday the 16th, curator Adonay Bermúdez moderates a conversation at El Almacén between photographers David GP and Daniel L. Fleitas, focusing on their creative processes and the connections between their visual languages.
