Memoria Digital de Lanzarote, the digital documentation service for images and audiovisual material managed by the Data Centre of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has received a grant from the Government’s Ministry of Culture and Sport to complete the digitisation and dissemination of the photographic archive of the island’s three major print publications of recent decades: Lancelot, La Voz de Lanzarote and the now defunct Isla Informativa.
The historical photographic archives of Lancelot, La Voz de Lanzarote and Isla Informativa are already in the Cabildo’s custody, after being donated free of charge by the aforementioned media outlets. From now on, work will proceed to complete the digitisation and dissemination of almost 40,000 photographs belonging to these collections. The project is worth 25,000 euros and must be completed by the end of next year.
In addition, as will be recalled, all the issues of these outlets and other historical press titles have long been available in the ULPGC’s Jable digital repository (https://jable.ulpgc.es/), thanks to the collaboration between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the university.
Agreement with the Canary Islands Historical Photography Archive
An agreement has also been signed in recent days between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands Historical Photography Archive of the FEDAC, which belongs to the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, so that Memoria Digital de Lanzarote (www.memoriadelanzarote.com), managed by the Lanzarote Data Centre, can work with the Gran Canaria archive on activities to recover, publicise and raise awareness of the photographic and audiovisual heritage of both islands and of the Canary Islands in general, both within the archipelago and beyond it. In fact, collaboration with the Gran Canaria body has recently begun on the digitisation of a large part of the archive of the defunct broadcaster Lanzarote TV, currently held by the Teguise Archive.
