The timetable for the sixth season of archaeological work at the San Marcial de Rubicón site, in the municipality of Yaiza, has been finalised, and the project's scientific directors confirm that the work continuing the research and excavation at the first permanent European settlement in the Canary Islands, dating from the 15th century, is scheduled from Monday 22 September to Friday 24 October.
The work planned from September onwards will take place in the settlement's cemetery, where the remains of thirteen people were found last year, with the likelihood of further burials being uncovered during this new season.
Another objective of the research will be the area of the lime kiln, also discovered last October and regarded by the research team as the main new find of the fifth season. The first conclusions drawn from the archaeological work suggested that the kiln was abandoned with its last load still inside.
