La Guardia will be one of the big musical draws of the Fiestas de San Ginés this Friday 21 August, performing as part of El Guateque by Maxi Ferrer, which takes place on Avenida Vargas between 7:00 pm and 2:30 am. The event offers a musical journey through the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties, with the live set by one of the emblematic Spanish pop-rock bands of the 1980s as its centrepiece.
Led from the start by Manuel España, La Guardia was formed in Granada in 1983 and reached the height of its popularity at the end of that decade with Vámonos and songs that became part of the soundtrack of Spanish pop. More than four decades on, the band is still touring, and in 2026 it celebrates 40 years on the road with Ruta 40, a show conceived precisely as a run through its greatest hits.
In Arrecife, audiences will hear some of the most recognisable songs in their repertoire, including Mil calles llevan hacia ti, Cuando brille el sol and El mundo tras el cristal, as well as songs such as Blues de la Nacional II, La carretera and Al otro lado. To mark the anniversary, the band has also revisited some of its classics, releasing in 2026 a new live version of El mundo tras el cristal with Efecto Mariposa.
The performance is part of a long session of El Guateque, in which Maxi Ferrer will travel through several decades of music, keeping the festive atmosphere going on Avenida Vargas well into the early hours.
