La Joven Orquesta de Canarias (JOCAN) will stop off in Lanzarote on 24 July with a free concert at the Centro Cultural Benito Pérez Armas in Yaiza, as part of the ‘A todo bronce’ tour, which will take the ensemble to all eight islands of the Archipelago during the second half of July.
The programme will feature eleven young brass players —two French horns, four trumpets, four trombones and a tuba— performing a chamber programme devoted to some of the most representative works written for this instrumental line-up. The repertoire will include compositions by Paul Dukas, Giovanni Gabrieli, Jim Parker, Chris Hazell and Gareth Wood, in a journey through different periods of music history with particular emphasis on the 20th century.
The concert forms part of JOCAN's 25th gathering, an initiative promoted by the Gobierno de Canarias that brings together young musicians from every island and which, on this occasion, opts for a chamber format to bring classical music to less usual venues. The tour will travel to El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife, La Graciosa, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria between 17 and 26 July.
The Yaiza performance will be free to attend and will give audiences in Lanzarote the chance to enjoy the talent of one of the main training grounds for classical music in the Canary Islands, made up of young instrumentalists who represent the present and the future of orchestral playing in the Archipelago.
