Las Breñas is already celebrating its patron-saint fiestas in honour of San Luis Gonzaga, with a programme running until 21 June that combines sporting activities, traditional games, workshops, children's events, neighbourhood gatherings and musical performances. Over these weeks the southern village is offering a schedule designed for all ages, with events split between Plaza Víctor Fernández Gopar and the Centro Cultural.
One of the most eagerly awaited moments will come on Friday 19 June with the Encuentro Folklórico Víctor Fernández Gopar, dedicated to the memory of 'El Salinero'. The parranda (traditional Canarian folk group) Janubio, which this year marks four decades on the road, will share the stage with Acatife and young soloist Elieser Betancort. The night will continue with a verbena (open-air street party) featuring Malpeis and Son de Norte.
The fiestas will close on Sunday 21 June with the religious service and the procession in honour of the patron saint, accompanied by the Banda Municipal, the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón and the Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza. After the religious events, the square will host a tribute show to Alejandro Fernández, rounding off two weeks of community life and celebration.
