Punta Mujeres celebrates its fiestas with a week of music, verbenas and a romería

From 31 August to 8 September, Punta Mujeres celebrates its Fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora del Pino, with a programme spanning more than a week that combines music, children's activities, sport, traditional games, food, crafts and the village's main festive gatherings.

Music plays a prominent role in the celebrations, with nights of parrandas, a Drag Queen Gala, verbenas and the Fiesta de la Tapa. The programme opens on Monday 31 August with the village being decked out and activities throughout the day, plus a parade of gigantes y cabezudos (giants and big-heads) accompanied by the batucada of the comparsa Los Yaiseros. The evening also includes performances by Atlántico Trío and Ciro Corujo.

On Thursday 3 September comes one of the most distinctive events of the fiestas, the Quema de Los Costeros, followed by a community barbecue with the Agrupación Folklórica Guagime and the parrandas Gurfines son los del Puerto and Pal’ Porrón. Before that, the Grupo Folklórico Blimea, from Asturias, will perform.

Friday 4 September will be one of the big party nights in Punta Mujeres, with a Drag Queen Gala followed by a verbena with Lanzarote Swing, Rikabanda and Mambo con Fuego.

The romería arrives on Saturday 5 September, another of the central days of the programme. The celebration continues with dancing and performances by Son del Mar, Son del Norte, Malpeis and Swing del Norte.

On Sunday 6 September the party moves to the harbour area during the day with the Verbena del Agua and water inflatables. In the afternoon comes the Fiesta de la Tapa at the ventorrillos area, with performances by Arpegio, Jaleo, Alegranza and Son de Gofio.

The fiestas close on Tuesday 8 September, the feast day of Nuestra Señora del Pino, with Mass at 7:00 pm followed by a procession accompanied by the group Alborada.
