The Ayuntamiento de Arrecife is organising this Saturday 30 May, coinciding with Canary Islands Day, a new Canarian community event at the Mercado Tradicional in the revamped Plaza de Las Palmas, as part of its efforts to support local produce and the island's primary sector.
The "Entre Sabor y Mar Arrecife" initiative is a gastronomic, cultural and musical proposal that will turn the historic centre of Lanzarote's capital into a grand gathering space centred on local produce, the sea, tradition and live music with groups that carry the identity of the islands.
During the morning, Plaza de Las Palmas will host a full experience around local produce and the sea, starting with the arrival of Canarian bluefin tuna and its live cutting (ronqueo), allowing the public to see up close the traditional process of butchering, its culinary use and the cultural value it holds within local cuisine.
The day continues with tastings prepared by hospitality professionals, featuring proposals where local produce and the taste of the sea take centre stage, culminating with a communal corn broth (caldo de millo) open to all.
Gastronomic route through central Arrecife
In addition, "Entre Sabor y Mar Arrecife" extends across various points of the historic centre through a gastronomic route, where several establishments will offer special proposals made with local produce and nods to Canarian culinary tradition. An experience open to the public that connects gastronomy, hospitality, local commerce and the community.
From the afternoon, the event continues with a broad live music programme. The lineup features performances by Son del Norte (15:30), Latin Dúo (16:30), Los Coquillos (17:45), Kódigo 4 (20:00) and closing with Maxi Ferrer (22:00), accompanying the day from midday into the night.
