The writer Miguel Aguerralde shared on 21 December with his neighbours in the town of Playa Blanca details about the novel 'Los espectros de Nueva Ámsterdam: El viaje del Errante', published just weeks before with the backing of the Cazador publishing label.
In it, he describes a distant future in which Earth has suffered the consequences of climate change and the only hope for the human species is to find another planet on which to survive. This is his first foray into the science fiction genre. "I really wanted to mix mystery and crime with a futuristic setting," commented Aguerralde. The author also stated that his latest publication "allows me to continue exploring human psychology, love, and relationships from a completely different perspective."
'Los espectros de Nueva Ámsterdam: El viaje del Errante' is the longest work published by the author to date, and one of those with the most characters and subplots woven into its pages. The need to abandon planet Earth due to climate change is the most catastrophic consequence of a problem that grows more acute with each passing day. Aguerralde plays with anticipation and dystopia to depict a bleak panorama with barely a refuge for hope, drawing on real astrophysical theories and aeronautical projects still under study.
'Los espectros de Nueva Ámsterdam: El viaje del Errante' draws on the references of classic noir but this time connects with futuristic science fiction in the vein of films such as Blade Runner or Mad Max. "It's a really fun opportunity to fuse the themes and devices of the crime thriller with the long-term possibilities of the technological development we are immersed in," noted Aguerralde.
