The Cabildo (the island government) of Lanzarote, through its Culture Department, has unveiled its cultural programme for July, an agenda marked by live music and by the premiere of Víctor, the musical show devoted to the figure of Víctor Fernández Gopar, «El Salinero». Alongside these, the month brings together literary events, cinema, arts training and encounters that reinforce the diversity of the island's cultural offering over the summer.
Víctor, the musical
On 10 and 11 July, the Auditorio de Jameos del Agua hosts Víctor, a musical show organised by the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo of the Cabildo de Lanzarote that traces the life and legacy of Víctor Fernández Gopar, «El Salinero», one of the most emblematic figures of the island's popular culture. Through an original story combining live music, theatre and a carefully crafted staging, the work highlights the memory, tradition and intangible heritage of Lanzarote.
Inspired by the life of the poet and salt worker from Janubio, the production celebrates his contribution to preserving Canarian customs, landscapes and identity, bringing audiences closer to a legacy that remains part of Lanzarote's collective memory.
Festival Canarias Jazz & Más
The Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más celebrates its 35th edition with two dates in Lanzarote bringing audiences some of the most notable names in contemporary jazz. On 3 July, La Graciosa welcomes Lajalada, the project of singer and composer Belén A. Doreste, which fuses folk music, electronica and experimentation in a distinctly hand-crafted live show.
The programme continues on 17 July in the plaza of El Almacén with a double bill featuring the Xavi Torres Trio alongside saxophonist Miguel Zenón, one of the most influential figures in jazz today, and the Marco Mezquida Trío, who will present Táctil, a work in which music becomes a physical, sensory experience.
Music
July's music programme opens on 3 July at El Almacén with a concert by Lidia con ello, a singer-songwriter based in Lanzarote who will present the songs from her first album, Fluye, along with new compositions moving between rock, blues, soul and pop.
Live music continues with Lava Live Fest 2026, which on 24 and 25 July will hold two of its days in Arrecife. The festival returns with leading Spanish and international artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Nicky Jam, Nathy Peluso, Ana Mena and Juanma Restrepo, among others, cementing its place as one of the summer's great musical events in the Canaries.
Cinema
July's film programme combines auteur cinema and the recovery of audiovisual heritage. On 1 and 2 July, the Cine Buñuel at El Almacén screens La chica zurda, the debut feature by Taiwanese director Shih-Ching Tsou, a family drama shot entirely on an iPhone 13 that explores the bonds between three generations of women in the city of Taipei.
On 11 July, Cine Club Lanzarote revisits Grand Canary (1934), a Hollywood production set in the Canary Islands whose vision of the archipelago serves as a starting point for reflecting on how the islands have been portrayed on screen. The screening will feature researcher Gonzalo M. Pavés, author of Un paraíso herido. De cómo Hollywood reinventó las Islas Canarias, accompanied by historian José Antonio Ribas.
Literature
July's programme also includes the launch of La condena de las Torres Bellas, the new work by Vivien Déniz. The event, scheduled for 24 July at El Almacén, will combine reading, conversation and performance in a proposal inviting reflection on identity, the body and the experience of dissidence from a contemporary perspective.
Workshops
July's programme reserves a prominent place for arts training with two options aimed both at those wanting to get started and at those looking to deepen their creative processes. El Almacén hosts a new edition of the contemporary drawing workshop coordinated by David Machado, focused on experimenting with drawing and developing collective projects.
The offering is completed by the Collage Laboratory, a space open to collective creation and visual thinking running from 28 to 31 July. As well as a workroom with free public access, the programme includes four specific workshops with prior registration, reinforcing the commitment to cultural mediation, participation and artistic experimentation.
Storytelling and theatre
The spoken word and acting are at the heart of two of July's stage events at El Almacén. On 10 July, the ContARTe company presents Cuentos para querernos mejor, a show that blends oral storytelling and live music to build a tale full of emotion, warmth and sensitivity.
The programme concludes on 31 July with ¿Quién teme a Virginia Woolf?, by the Chespir company, an adaptation of Edward Albee's celebrated text that, through sharp, intense dialogue, explores complex human relationships and the conflicts hidden behind the appearance of everyday life.
