The first weekend of August comes packed with popular celebrations across Lanzarote. Romerías (pilgrimage processions), verbenas (open-air dances), parranda (folk music) nights, live music and activities for the whole family will fill the streets of several municipalities as they celebrate their patron saint fiestas.
Puerto del Carmen, Las Nieves and Playa Quemada account for much of the programme, with dance bands, folk groups and traditional events that will once again bring residents and visitors together.
Puerto del Carmen
The Fiestas del Carmen will enjoy two of their most anticipated nights in the Plaza del Varadero. On Friday 31 July, from 10:30 pm, there will be a big verbena with Wamampy de La Gomera, Rikabanda and Vocal Force.
The music continues on Saturday 1 August with the popular Verbena Tiñosera, which starts at 8:00 pm with the bands Mambo con Fuego, Banda Nueva, Dani Valiente and Wamampy de La Gomera.
Las Nieves (Teguise)
On Saturday 1 August, one of the busiest events of the fiestas takes place: the Romería Popular to the Ermita de Las Nieves. After the pilgrims arrive comes the offering to the Virgin, accompanied by the folk group Altaja and the parranda Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
The day ends with a big parranda night featuring Los Gurfines Son los del Puerto, Son del Norte and Los Valles.
Playa Quemada (Yaiza)
The fiestas begin on Friday 31 July at 9:00 pm with a Parranda Night featuring Los Gurfines and El Golpito.
On Saturday 1 August, also at 9:00 pm, it is the turn of PlayBLACK, made up of local residents, followed by a verbena with Vocal Force and Nueva Stella.
Celebrations continue on Sunday 2 August with a Water Party from 11:00 am, followed by Swing del Norte at 12:00 noon.
