The V Encuentro Literario de Lanzarote Verbena presented a new edition on Tuesday at El Almacén, at an event attended by the culture councillor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote (the island government), Jesús Machín Tavío; the encounter's coordinator, Lana Corujo; the director of the Hotel Nautilus Lanzarote, Galder Atxa; the artist Laura López Balza, author of the art installation opened as part of the festival; and the culture councillor of the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Abigail González.
Until 13 June, Verbena will once again turn El Almacén into a space for literature, reflection and dialogue between disciplines, bringing together creators who work from the Canary Islands or maintain close ties with the archipelago. This fifth edition offers a look at creative processes, memory, the building of a voice and the relationship between literature, image and territory.
"Shhh, no despierten a los volcanes"
Coinciding with the opening of Verbena, El Almacén unveiled the art installation Shhh, no despierten a los volcanes, by Laura López Balza, which can be visited until 26 September in the cultural centre's Salita.
The show forms part of the work developed by the artist during her residency at the Hotel Nautilus Lanzarote and offers a visual interpretation of the island landscape through luminous painting inspired by the light, the volcanoes and the vegetation of Lanzarote.
The exhibition will feature a conversation between Laura López Balza and Adonay Bermúdez on Friday 13 June at 20:00, in the Sala de Cine at El Almacén. In addition, David Machado will lead a programme of guided tours of the show on 27 June, 14 and 26 July, 4 and 22 August, and 4 and 26 September.
Both the tours and the complementary activities will be free to attend, subject to capacity.
