The documentary Compartir, transformar, decidir. Una historia de participación en Lanzarote will be screened on Thursday 30 July at 7:00 pm in the Sala Teatro of the Multicines Atlántida. Admission is free to this production, which traces more than fifty years of civic mobilisation and recognises the role of associations, collectives and social movements in transforming the island.
Directed and written by Pilar Estevan and made by David Hernández, the documentary is the result of an extensive process of research and filming. Over its 33 minutes, it focuses on organised citizens and on the people who decided to join forces to tackle shared problems, defend the land, demand their rights, improve their neighbourhoods or drive social changes that are now part of Lanzarote's reality.
Through the testimonies of historians, journalists, activists, public officials and representatives of the associative movement, the film reconstructs a little-known part of the island's recent history. It spans from the first residents' associations and workers' struggles to the environmental movement, social associations and the new forms of participation promoted by public administrations.
The screening, suitable for all audiences, is organised by the Área de Gobierno Abierto del Cabildo de Lanzarote y La Graciosa and will take place in the Sala Teatro of the Multicines Atlántida.
