On 19 and 20 September, the Pabellón de Titerroy will revive one of the historic tournaments of Lanzarote basketball. After years off the calendar, the 24 Horas returns with a format of 12 hours of play each day, in an edition dedicated to Guillermo González Raviña, ‘Dongui’, the long-serving teacher and coach closely linked to sport on the island.
The tournament will have men's and women's categories for cadets, for players aged 14 and 15; juniors, aged 16 and 17; seniors; and an inclusive category. Games will be played from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on both Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The event will also include a three-point contest and an award for the best performance of the tournament.
The first inclusive 24 Horas in the Canary Islands
One of the highlights of this revival is the addition of inclusive basketball, making the Lanzarote event the first 24 Horas tournament of its kind to be held in the Canary Islands.
The competition is organised by Canarias Baloncesto and canarias3x3.com, with the participation of Lanzabasket and Roscachapas, and is also a tribute to ‘Dongui’, whose decades of work as a teacher and coach brought sport to several generations of young people in Lanzarote.
Teams can register until 11:59 pm on 14 September by emailing info@canariasbaloncesto.com or sending a WhatsApp message to 659 834 157, stating the team name, category, players and contact details. The organisers will then send the rules and the documents needed to complete registration.
