La Villa de Teguise to host a charity run for people and their pets in support of animal adoption

La Villa de Teguise will be the setting for the first edition of the Teguican Running, a charity race taking place on 25 July with the aim of encouraging responsible adoption, promoting animal welfare and raising funds for Lanzarote's animal protection associations. The initiative, organised by Teguise Town Council through its Department for Animal Welfare, invites families, athletes and animal lovers alike to take part.

Participants will be able to complete the route with their own pet, accompanied by one of the dogs from the Albergue Municipal (the municipal animal shelter), or even on their own, in an event open to all ages and fitness levels that will combine sport, community and solidarity.

The Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, stressed that "this initiative reflects the council's commitment to animal welfare and to promoting activities that encourage community spirit and healthy lifestyles. We want it to be a day to enjoy as a family, to share values and to keep raising awareness about respect and care for animals".

The Councillor for Animal Welfare, Ginés González, explained that "the Teguican Running was created to give greater visibility to the dogs at the Albergue Municipal and to keep driving responsible adoption. We invite everyone to take part in a different kind of morning, a charitable one, designed to be enjoyed alongside our pets".

Beyond its sporting side, the race aims to raise awareness of the importance of responsible pet ownership and animal adoption, while supporting the work carried out by the island's animal protection associations, which will receive the funds raised during the event.

The programme will begin at 9:00 am with race number collection in the Plaza de La Constitución. At 10:00 am there will be a canicross demonstration, while the start of the main 3.5-kilometre race is scheduled for 10:45 am. The children's race, over a 700-metre course, will set off at 11:00 am, ahead of the prize-giving ceremony that will bring the morning to a close.

Registration is already open and can be completed through the official Tripasión Eventos platform.
