Yaiza heads into September with a cultural programme in which theatre, music and events for children and families take centre stage. Alongside them come a screening of the documentary Valientes and several talks on health, nutrition and wellbeing.
Among the highlights is a new free workshop in creation and performance led by Siscu Ruz, starting on 22 September at the Centro Cultural de Uga. The actor and director returns to the municipality with a course that will culminate in the premiere of a play starring the participants themselves.
The stage programme continues on 26 September with the return of the company Somos Teatro and its production of La Boda, a socially engaged play that explores how Alzheimer's gradually erodes memory and the ability to think. The performance will be followed by a conversation with geriatrician Elisa Corujo.
Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza
Music gets its first date on Friday 4 September at 8:00 pm, with the Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza at the Casa de la Cultura. The group, conducted by Nuvi Tavío, will present the gala Canciones que fueron poemas, with musical accompaniment from Vientar Trío.
On 11 September at 8:30 pm, the Casa de la Cultura will host Alma en Concierto by the duo Bravo. Singer Araceli Bravo and pianist Fran Mauri will offer an intimate evening built around voice and piano.
Cuento Contigo
September also brings Cuento Contigo to Yaiza, a project by the Asociación La Mar de Bien Lanzarote aimed especially at families. The initiative will offer storytelling sessions and other activities for babies, children and adults.
The programme runs until 13 November. Interested families can sign up via WhatsApp on 680 985 889.
‘Valientes’ documentary
On Monday 7 September there will be a screening of Valientes, a documentary produced by the Fundación Canaria Pequeño Valiente. The film gathers the testimony of ten Canarian mothers and fathers whose children have been affected by childhood cancer, tracing their experiences, their shared pain and their hope.
The agenda continues on Wednesday 9 September with the talk Comer bien para vivir mejor: nutrición con memoria, salud y conciencia, given by dietitian-nutritionist Leticia González Camacho. The talk will look at our relationship with our food roots and why they matter for active, fulfilling and independent ageing.
Finally, on 18 September at 6:00 pm, oncologist Pedro Lara Jiménez, director of the Fundación Instituto Canario de Investigación del Cáncer, will give a lecture in the talks room of the Casa del Camello in Uga on colon cancer and the importance of taking part in public early-detection programmes.
The full programme, including times and registration for the Siscu Ruz workshop, is available on the Yaiza website and in the printed edition of the municipal Agenda.
