The Cabildo de Lanzarote, through its Department of Culture, presents its cultural programme for June — a month that places the literary gathering Verbena, the musical event Sonidos Líquidos and Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote among its main highlights. The agenda is rounded out with stage proposals, exhibitions, screenings and activities that reinforce the diversity of the island's cultural offering.
Verbena
From 9 to 13 June, El Almacén hosts a new edition of Verbena, Lanzarote's literary gathering dedicated to new voices and new paths in contemporary creation. Over five days, writers, artists and readers will share a programme that explores literature from an open and cross-disciplinary perspective, in dialogue with other art forms and modes of expression.
The programme brings together conversations, workshops, art installations and participatory activities featuring authors such as Juan Evaristo Valls Boix, Tatiana Donoso, Laura López Balza, Kenya Stéphanie, Adriana Murad and Juli Mesa. A space for reflecting on present-day narratives and exploring the many forms literature takes today.
Music
June's music programme blends tradition, emerging talent and unique proposals tied to the island's cultural landscape. On 4 June, El Almacén hosts a special experience in which composer and producer Jon Aguirrezabalaga, Zabala, will perform a live reinterpretation of the Taxi Driver soundtrack alongside a screening of Martin Scorsese's film. A day later, the same venue welcomes Ángela González, one of the most exciting emerging voices in Spanish pop.
The agenda is completed by the flagship Sonidos Líquidos event in La Geria and a new edition of the Tradición Isleña circuit, which will tour various municipalities throughout the month with performances by folk groups and parrandas, reinforcing the bond between popular music, territory and community.
Theatre and dance
June's stage programme brings together proposals spanning comedy, multidisciplinary spectacle and urban dance. On 19 June, El Almacén hosts El enroque, a drawing-room comedy that revisits couple dynamics and human relationships through humour and irony. A day later, the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar "El Salinero" presents Happy Bday Showgirls, a hybrid show blending music, dance, theatre, performance and audience participation.
Urban dance also takes a prominent role with Desde dentro, from the Xtreme Up Dance Studio, and the closing gala of the fifth edition of Across Hip-Hop Lanzarote, bringing together students, teachers and guest artists in a celebration of young talent and urban culture.
Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote
Television returns to Arrecife with a new edition of Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote, taking place from 25 to 27 June across various venues in the capital. The event brings together audiovisual professionals, creators and audiences for a programme combining informative activities, networking and experiences linked to the world of television.
El Almacén, Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa and Restaurante El Puerto will host an event that continues to strengthen the link between Lanzarote and the audiovisual industry, bringing audiences some of the most relevant voices and projects in today's television landscape.
Exhibitions
June brings the opening of three new exhibitions at El Almacén, on view until the end of September. On 26 June, Antitemáticas by Juan Arranz, Identidad by Will Encarnación and the video installation Arqueología del ciclo by Atchen Pounapall open their doors — three projects sharing a contemporary gaze on artistic creation through very different languages and sensibilities.
The exhibitions explore questions of identity, transformation, visual memory and creative processes, combining painting, installation and audiovisual creation in a display that reinforces El Almacén's role as a meeting point with contemporary art.
Screenings
The figure of Ildefonso Aguilar takes centre stage in two audiovisual events linked to the exhibition La profundidad del silencio. On 20 June, El Almacén screens Tierra de hielo, accompanied by a live musical intervention by Samuel Aguilar and a conversation between the artist and curator Adonay Bermúdez.
The programme concludes on 30 June with the documentary Paisajes audibles, directed by José María de Páiz, followed by a discussion with Ildefonso Aguilar himself. Both events offer an opportunity to delve deeper into the creative universe of one of Lanzarote's most important cultural figures through image, sound and conversation.
