The Plaza del Mercado in Uga will become an open-air cinema this week with a new stop of the Cine Ambulante de Verano, which will offer two free screenings for all audiences on 6 and 7 August. After touring other municipalities on the island, the season reaches Yaiza with two films that invite reflection on power, justice and individual responsibility.
The programme opens on 6 August with Three Days of the Condor, a suspense classic starring a CIA analyst who, after finding his colleagues murdered, is forced to go on the run while trying to work out whom he can trust. The following day it is the turn of Argentina, 1985, inspired by the historic Trial of the Juntas and centred on the work of a young prosecutor and his team to bring those responsible for the Argentine dictatorship to justice. The session will be mediated by percussionist Karina Lacourtois, who will take part in the introduction and in the conversation with the audience afterwards.
Both screenings start at 9:00 pm, with free entry until full capacity and a free bus service from Arrecife, subject to prior booking. The initiative carries on reviving the experience of the old summer cinemas, turning public spaces into places of gathering and community through film.
