The Cabildo de Lanzarote, through its Department of Physical Activity and Sport, has officially presented the 31st edition of the Festival de Gimnasia Isla de Lanzarote "Lolina Curbelo", established as one of the most popular and eagerly awaited events in the island's sporting calendar.
This 2026 edition marks a significant format shift, complementing the traditional exhibition sessions with competitive tournaments in the two gymnastics disciplines with deep roots on the island: rhythmic and artistic.
The Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote and the sports hall of IES Blas Cabrera Felipe will serve as the main venues for all scheduled sessions, running from 5 to 14 June. Activities kick off on Friday 5 June with a rhythmic gymnastics masterclass, setting the stage for the 'Tenesa Fest' Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament on Saturday 6 June. The emotional opening exhibition session of the festival takes place on Wednesday 10 June from 19:00, featuring six Lanzarote teams: TenesaSol, CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo, Tigotán, Salite, Isla de Lanzarote and Ayatima.
From Thursday 11 June, the International Tournament of Lanzarote 'Zapata's Cup' begins with the first artistic gymnastics subdivision at 17:00, followed that same evening at 20:30 by the second exhibition session of the festival. The high-level competition continues throughout the weekend with successive subdivisions of the 'Zapata's Cup', starting at 20:45 on Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June.
Full participation
In terms of participation, the local exhibitions will feature around 400 gymnasts from Lanzarote. The tournament promoted by Club Tenesa Sol will bring together 240 athletes from Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote. The international artistic gymnastics tournament 'Zapata's Cup' will record the highest number of competitors, with approximately 400 athletes travelling from Belgium as well as the communities of Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Andalusia, Extremadura, and the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote.
As a highlight alongside the competition, masterclasses in both disciplines will feature top-level international guest gymnasts, offering a unique learning opportunity for the island's rising talent.
The rhythmic gymnastics programme will be led by Margarita Kolosov, whilst the demanding artistic gymnastics discipline will be supported by world-class and Olympic figures including Ray Zapata, Nicolau Mir, Néstor Abad, Thierno Diallo, Daniel Carrión and Joel Plata.
